about us
On Film is a graduate student-run screening project housed within the Graduate Program in Visual and Cultural Studies at the University of Rochester. Since 2009, our mission has been to cultivate a trusted venue for screening rarely seen and important films from around the world. Each semester, we organize free public screenings and invite renowned film scholars, filmmakers, and artists to lecture and present their work to both the local and University of Rochester communities. On Film is committed to showcasing works in a variety of formats, but with a particular emphasis on screening analog film. To this end, On Film regularly utilizes the Film and Media Studies Program’s archive of 16mm films to curate programs in our effort to sustain the increasingly rare experience of screening films on film for our broader community.
